What's the Latest Development?

A day before we celebrate our nation's Freedom and Independence, a wide range of Activists and organizations have thrown their support behind a declaration of Internet freedom. The New America Foundation's Open Technology Institute joins organizations like Amnesty International and MoZilla to affirm five Basic Principles of global importance:

- Expression: Don't censor the Internet.

- access: Promote universal access to fast and affordable NETWORKS.

- Openness: Keep the Internet an open network where everyone is free to Connect, Communicate, write, Read, Watch, SpeaK, Listen, Learn, Create and innovate.

- Innovation: Protect The Freedom to innovate and create Without Permission. Don’t block new technologies, and don’t punish innovators for their users' actions.

- Privacy: Protect privacy and defend everyone’s ability to Control how their data and devices are used.

The UK's Minister of State for Universities and Science, David Willetts.
There's been a growing push to get more Scientific Research out from behind paywalls. The federal government, private funding bodies, and a number of research institutions have all adopted policies that either mandate or encourage placing papers where The Public can view them. Now, it appears that the UK is considering following suit. In addition to planning to make its researchers' publications available, the country's science minister has asked Wikipedia's Jimmy Wales to advise it on how to make the underlying data accessible.

The announcements came in a speech by David Willetts, the UK's Minister of State for Universities and Science. Willets was pretty blunt about access to government-funded research, saying, "As taxpayers put their money towards intellectual inquiry, they cannot be barred from then accessing it."

2012年のトップ曲を一言で言うとしたら、やっぱり「ヴィジュアル系」かな？2012年前半に、エックス・ジャパンと始まって初期V系・ロック中毒になっちゃった・・・ エックスに限らずに、ルナシー・ディル・アン・グレイ・ジャンヌダルクなどの90年代～00年代前半のロックバンドにもすごくハマっちゃった。文字通り、ロックしか聴いてなかったー＞∀＜ そのとき、ロックはやっぱり俺の一番好きなジャンルだと分かった。（先年はラップ・ヒップホップなのに）でも実に言うと、罪悪感を少し感じてきた・・・だって、俺の大好きなコトコちゃんをもう聴いてなかったから！！一番大好きな歌手を裏切ったのようだった・・・・・・T____T
だけれど、後半になると聴く習慣がマタ変わった・・・ 今回は浅倉大介作曲のアーティストたち（TMレボリューション・アクセス）なのに一曲しかトップ20（じゃなくて18だろう）に入れなかったらしい。ロックにほんっとにハマっちゃったね・・・
びっくりするのは、外国人のNena・Kassinのドイツ語・ポルトガル語の曲、ムーヴの「oveRtaKerS」、松下優也の「君の声」、ねごとの「メルシールー」。そして、一時に聴いてなかったが素晴らしい新アルバムからのコトコちゃんの「メーテルリンク」は13位に！！コトコちゃんは何を聴いてハマても裏切らない！！＞∀＜
今年（2012年）はもう音楽的に素晴らしい年になりそうで、これからの作品（特に去年独立したコトコちゃんの＾＾）を楽しみにしている！

An enterprising advocate for openness in government has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the FBI for all information the agency uses related to Carrier IQ, the company under fire for Monitoring user activity on smartphones—and his request was flatly denied. The FBI claims data gathered by Carrier IQ software is exempt from disclosure laws because it is located in an investigative file that was "compiled for law enforcement purposes" and "could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceedings."

Michael Morisy, a journalist who founded an organization called MuckRock to ease the process of filing foia requests, wrote the FBI on Dec. 1 asking for "any manuals, documents or other written guidance used to access or Analyze data gathered by programs developed or deployed by Carrier IQ.... …
