Heartbeat and an alarm introduce the song (and the rest of the album). It is, effectively, a slowed-down variation on the other punk numbers here. Strip away the first and last thirty seconds, play this at twice its current tempo, and this song fits in with any of the sub-two minute pieces on the album. It's a punk song stretched out and attenuated. And the slowed pace allows for a typical structural complexity, providing the song with time for an intro and a gradual fadeout. It's all about the pacing--a patient invitation to the abbreviated bursts of songcraft that will follow.
