Last night, US R&B superstar Usher gave a concert in London, at the Hammersmith Apollo venue, in order to promote his brand new album, "Looking 4 Myself". The concert could also be seen live on YouTube/VEVO and was part of the American Express Unstaged series.

It started with OMG (from the Raymond v. Raymond album), and he continued with some classic songs such as Yeah! (from the Confessions album), U Remind Me, U Don't Have To Call (both from 8701), You Make Me Wanna and Nice & Slow (both from My Way). At the end of the song, he took his T-shirt off, which drove all the girls crazy.

He put his T-shirt back on for Love In This Club (from Here I Stand), which was the next song, and the show went on: Lil Freak, There Goes My Baby (both from Raymond v. Raymond), Burn and Bad Girl (both from Confessions) and Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home) (from Raymond v. Raymond).

The next songs were extracts, which was a shame because it would've been better if some of them were sung entirely: Confessions…

2008 was a year of music on the decline and becoming more homogenised than ever. Nevertheless, there were still some highlights who, whether they broke the mould or blazed a trail through the mainstream, showed that good music can still be found.

10. MP3 - M. Pokora
This album by a French singer (full name Matthieu Totta) originally born from reality tv, is much more fascinating than certain other reality stars' vehicles because of its stellar production, including tracks from Ryan Leslie, JR Rotem and of course, Timbaland (who here commits some of his best work of the year, perhaps reinvigorated by collaborating with a talent still unknown enough - to the English-speaking world - not to be typecast). ThoughM. Pokora was thus, a bit too obviously, considered "the French Justin Timberlake" (though MP3's synthy lead single "Dangerous" does somewhat back this claim), M. Pokora holds his own in terms of style (Justin would never have, or be allowed to have, this many tattoos or piercings)…
