The Sonics played for a small audience on a monday night in Gothenburg... They started with He's Waiting but it took a few songs before both the band and the audience got warmed up. Then it got really good.
They impressed me when I saw them on Way Out West 2008 but I think they were even better this time. Gerry Roslie put all energy in his singing and screamed as powerful as in 1966. Larry Parypa looked concentrated and played great, as did sax player Rob Lind. They had a new bass player since I saw them last time, a funny guy with a powerful voice.
Drummer Ricky Lynn Johnson (originally of The Wailers) was awesome, I can't believe his energy. He was hitting hard nonstop without any break... and looking cool doing it too.
They played the hits of course... …
