Smash Hits had a musical pen pals section in it's magazine. A bit like the friends idea in Last.fm, only by snail mail. Simple Minds, Big Country and U2 seemed to be the groups most associated with each other according to the friends requests. The Similiar Artists section above only partially alludes to this, which makes me wonder how accurate it is.
