danc6433 Stupid memory---I recall driving home drunk (yeah, I know...dumb). Made it home at about 2:00 AM and was about to turn off the car when this song came on. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but I drove around the neighborhood blaring this song as loud as I could, drunk off my ass. Bad song, evil song...good song when you are drunk. Made it home safely, though :)

Scarboro, it is Stipe singing, although it was Mill's girlfriend who was going back to Rockville. I'd say Near Wild Heaven is the best with Mills in lead vocals. I think Mills provides such amazing harmonies to Stipe's vocals.

CantDecideAName, it was actually written by Mike Mills as a plea for HIS girlfriend not to go to Rockville, Maryland and instead stay in Athens. I love this song. It's a different kind of love song.
