Pitch Black is Paddy Free and Michael Hodgson. The Duo work in the borderlands of Electronica and Dub, where darker sounds reminiscent of Dubstep contrast with lighter and more upbeat. The rhythm is often a hypnotic four the floor pattern set adrift among propulsive delays. Their debut album Futureproof was released in September 1999 and rose to the top of the New Zealand electronic charts despite little or no marketing. The follow up album Electronomicon (2000) led to a sell out tour of Australia. Of recent times their album Rude Mechanicals (2007) has become somwhat of a classic with its deep almost cinematic take on Dub. Pitch Black have also had several songs played in the TV series CSI:Miami.
