”MY PASSION’S MUSIC TRANSCENDS BETWEEN HEIGHTS OF HEAVEN AND DEPTHS OF HELL! ONE MINUTE YOU’RE AT THE GREATEST PARTY ON EARTH AND YOUR WORLD IS FILLED WITH JOY, THE NEXT YOURE PLUNGED INTO A DARK DIRTY SCENE FROM A TIM BURTON FILM AND A NIGHTMARE THAT YOU DON’T WANT TO END! IT’S TIME TO START LIVING.
BIO . TRONIC
My Passion is Laurence René (Vocals, Guitar), Jonathan Gaskin (Drums, Vocals, Electronics), John Be (Guitar) and Simon Rolands (Bass, Synth), Four characters from the future, playing psychotic electronic rock that makes the strong dance, shake, shiver and the weak run in fear!
Their electropopmetalpunkdance sound started in the suburbs of London back in spring 2006. Since their launch, My Passion have played over 350 shows, driving from Inverness to Paris in their ex Salvation Army transit van. The van has now driven the equivalent of five times around the equator! Not content with playing the hundreds of live dates in the past two years, they also launched their own club night “Style Suicide Club”, a magnet for the disaffected youth and suburban misfits. It was NME’s Club of the week after just one outing. Myspace has also been huge for the band with the name spreading around the globe, by word of mouth the friends now stand at over 64,000 with online plays spiralling above half a million
Despite overtures from some of the cooler labels out there (and one unnamed soulless major), these young men and their management decided to pursue world domination on their own terms with the launch of their own label, ‘Style Suicide Records’.
Several successful releases followed, Tomorrow Girls, recorded with Mark Williams (Enter Shikari, Fightstar, and The Killers) sold out of its limited 2000 pressing within the first few months of touring. Followed by the second dance floor filler ‘Hot in the dolls house’ with it’s video receiving regular plays on Topshop TV and the recent download only release “BooMan” Record with Jason Wilcock (Fightstar, Ghost of A Thousand) which hit the top of the Indiestore download charts within a week of its release.
My Passion’s raising profile led to them being asked personally by the US pop culture celebrity ‘Jeffree Star’ to support him on his debut sold out UK tour. More supporting tour dates followed with Kill Hannah, Lost Alone, Robots In Disguise. The band won the Red Bull sponsored bedroom jam in March and received a slot on the Red Bull stage at this years Camden Crawl alongside acts such as Hadouken. My Passion recently finished their own self booked and promoted 30 date headline tour of the UK with a show at The Underworld Camden where blood boiled as bodies bounced and London shook.
Alongside their own record label, My Passion have been busy developing their own merchandising brand “My Passion Fashion” a hugely successful range which has been stocked by some of the trendiest alternative shops in London town and had Hot Topic USA sniffing at the opportunity to stock exclusive lines this Autumn.
Most recently the band decided to release the new single “Day of the Bees” recorded with gold record selling John Mitchell (Enter Shikari, Funeral For a Friend) as an exclusive merchandise/ music package. The single hitting iTunes at the start of July has just been unleashed on limited edition mini CD format attached to an exclusively pressed “Day of the Bees” Tshirt and as a download bundle on the band’s online store featuring the track, a behind the scenes photo collection and the iPod ready video shot underground this spring with the coolest kid’s of the My Passion’s street team “The Fab Blood Club” an army of hundreds of mischievous individuals hell bent on delivering My Passion to the masses.
A summer of shows and festival appearances is about to kick off to support the new single, highlighting with a major slot at Offset Festival (formerly TMF) with Fightstar, The Young Knives and Maccabees. In September the band return to Outhouse studio to record their debut album with John Mitchell set for release early 2009.
The huge popularity of the music, merchandise and My Passion’s determination to work harder than anyone else, has meant they have been able to fund tours and gain a rabidly addicted fan base without a label or any backing, through their own hard work built upon the key ingredient that gave the band their name, (my) Passion. The music may not scream punk in a traditional sense but all the rebellious intentions and an attitude to follow their own path, driven by pure desire and the thrill of scaring, shocking and exciting those who see and hear it point to My Passion as the punks of the future. ”
