HOLY FUCK. 2010 saw me buying (and receiving) a shitton of albums. I went from 48 in 2009 to 213 in '10. I may be a lot richer in music, but clearly not so much in the wallet. Fuck it, though. It was all worth it. I have a feeling that 2011 will find a little more middle ground. Anyway, it's never too early in the year to start! Oh, and I'm not going to include vinyl in here... you can see that in my vinyl collection entry.

Ten years ago, the debut album of Mount Carmel would have probably not been accepted easily and it would have probably been slaughtered by the press.
Why? Because Mount Carmel who just released their album with Siltbreeze, sounds like a tribute band to Mount Carmel and its musical heroes.

But these days, it's the post-whatever era, and therefore I declare this album as a post-blues-rock-seventies-style. There, I came up with a genre, I should have my name in the new-journalism hall of fame.
This trio from Colombus, Ohio, is all about fleshy and powerful blues-rock that gives my palate a big happiness, and I'm sure I would have enjoyed it even more if they had some sort of originality to their music.

Let's face it, vinyl records are making a comeback. It's a good thing, too, since they have a higher quality sound to them, and they're not subject to the bullshit that is the "Loudness War" that is so prevalent today. There's also something special about vinyl to those that enjoy great rock, especially stoner rock and doom metal. To me, it's about the nostalgia and the exclusivity of being able to find vinyl releases of your favorite music. Of course, the higher quality sound doesn't hurt, either!

na, hier sind die zutaten schnell beieinander und wenn mal als einflüsse ten years after, cream oder peter green anführen darf, kann der werte leser sich selbst ein bild machen. ja, mount carmel sind eine bluesrock kapelle. die betonung legen matthew reed, patrick reed und kevin shubak auf die konstanten dieses genres. es darf und muss rumpeln, die drums dürfen davon galoppieren, wie es die pferde vermutlich versucht sind, die auf dem naiven cover des aktuellen albums "s/t" dargestellt sind, zwischendurch erklingt das ergebnis deftigen einschlagens auf eine kuhglocke, zeichen für forcierung, die gitarren dräuen wie angeschlagenes vieh, der gesang ist schwermütig, kehlig, männlich. die soli gieren noch wie vor vierzig jahren gezielt nach aufmerksamkeit. das ist reduziert, wie auf diät, aber es hat den alten zauber. wer mir hier nicht mehr folgen kann, sollte umgehend aussteigen. es folgen wirkich nicht mehr viele lamenti. vielleicht noch so viel: auf cover falle ich nach wie vor herein. …
