    So What's Fort Hood About?

Regarding the tribute / ripoff discussion. It's neither really. It's totally the 'right' chorus for this song. The song's about the war in Iraq, the soldiers chewed up and spit out by it, and his feelings about the whole mess. The chorus IMHO, bridges the Iraq was to the war in Vietnam of the '70s.

I want to retract previous statements regarding this track and album in general. While it's not my favorite Doughty album, I can respect many of the creative decisions he made on this album.

I moved to New York when I was 18, and the music everywhere was hip hop and house, and often based on samples and re-jiggered melodies from other songs. It's kind of weird in singer-songwriter land to take a chorus from another song, but it felt really natural to me. - Mike Doughty

Maybe. Regardless, this is his most soulless album to date.

Um, I'm pretty certain it's more of a *tribute* than a *ripoff*. It's not as if he's pretending he WROTE that chorus.
