Meine Top 10 des Jahres 2011

Dank Last.fm weiß ich ganz genau, welche Interpreten ich in diesem Jahr wie oft gehört habe. Die Ergebnisse meiner persönlichen Top 10 waren zum Teil überraschend, auf jeden Fall bin ich sehr zufrieden. Ich veröffentliche sie hier kommentiert, in der Hoffnung, dass der eine oder andere neue Anregungen aus meinem viele Genres umspannenden Musikgeschmack ziehen kann.

Platz 10: Natalie Merchant
Großartiger Bluegrass/Folk. Nachdem ich auf einer Party ihre Version von "I'm a Poor Wayfaring Stranger" gehört habe, habe ich mir gleich das dazu gehörige Album "The House Carpenter's Daughter" gekauft. In diesem Jahr habe ich mir das Doppelalbum "Leave Your Sleep" gekauft, 26 Lieder die sie für ihre Tochter geschrieben hat. Ein fantastisches Booklet, in dem sie die Herkunft der Texte erklärt.

Platz 9: Deuter
Angenehmes New-Age-Plingplong. Seit Jahren auf Platz 1 meiner Gesamt-Charts bei Last.fm. Für den Einstieg empfehle ich die Alben "Cicada" und "Celebration".

At the beginning of the year I was eager to listen to the long list of new arrivals being released this year. Now after the half-way point of 2011 I have to admit that it has been nearly as good as one could hope.

KMFDM - WTF?!

Two years after Blitz, KMFDM return with more of the Ultra Heavy Beat. This time with even more of the resurgent analog sound. WTF?! is not simply more of the same, but is a firm step forward as the veterans of industrial showcase a sonic onslaught that will leave listeners asking 'WTF?!'

Fair to Midland - Arrows and Anchors
This is the sophomore release from an unlikely group of Texan folk-rockers. Their debut, which released on June 12th, 2007, featured the radio hit "Dance of the Manatee" and their new release seeks to follow the momentum of the first album. New to this album are a series of interludes between anthemic, folk-laced rock songs. My favorite track so far on this album is 'A Loophole in Limbo. …
