Flawless song, but Liza was the only one in "Notes From Underground" who I cared about tbh.

This is different from the album version. I think I prefer the album version. I especially don't like the piano on this version.

Mitya, this song is based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel which was originally "Notes From Under The Floorboards", but when it got translated from russian into english, it was wrongly titled "Notes From Underground". in russia, there is a lot of superstition about what lies under the floorboards. IE spirits. underground has more connotations of spies, and far less eerie subjects, so i guess that's why Magazine decided to name the song after the original book title. the book starts with something like "I am an evil man. I am a spiteful man. I believe my liver is diseased.", which is quite similar to the opening of the song. and "I know the meaning of life. It doesn't help me one bit", i think is a direct quote. it's said to be the first existentialist novel. it is thoroughly melancholy, but if you can appreciate that (and why else would you be listening to this stuff?) it is worth a read. one of my favourite books.
