Last year (2011) I went to two live concerts of The Gathering: one at P60, Amstelveen on the 27th of May and one at De Kelder, Amersfoort on the 16th of September. Both concerts were really great. At first I didn't know what to expect of the new singer, Silje Wergeland. But she was really good! Not only her 'own' songs from The West Pole, but also the older songs sounded really great. I never knew she had such a powerful voice. Highlight both times was the amazing new single Heroes for Ghosts. It is such a great song and fits so well with her voice and her way of singing. The only thing Silje lacks is a bit of charisma to interact with the audience. It seems she is still a bit shy. But that might have been due to the audience as well. On both events the audience was not really enthusiastic, and talking a lot in between, but also during the songs, which was very annoying. I was also surprised that such a few people came to see them. I would expect them to have more fans after so many years. …

I used to have a list of my collection on my old account, but I haven't updated it in a while. So I'll make a new list here.

I know that quite a few lists like this exist already but I felt like doing my own. The main reason I wanted to do this list is because I've never seen a list that includes the style of the bands and if you're searching for some specific style you have to go through all this bands and it will probably take you a long time until you find what you are looking for. So this should make things a lot easier.

Another thing I want to mention is that not all the bands in this list are really metal, but they have metal influences or some other connection to it.

If you know some more bands I didn't include in here than please let me know

Fri 1 Apr – Fused Festival

A brief summary of the bits that I saw from the festival this last weekend. It would have been nice to have seen a slightly larger turnout, but its not easy to pull in a crowd for any Prog-related show these days

Saturday:
I went to a Paradise Lost gig on the Friday night - which in retrospect was a mistake as I didn't enjoy it much. I should have turned up in Lydney to see Vanden Plas instead - I heard that they were excellent.

I ended up travelling over the following day and had hoped to at least arrive in time to catch Toxic Smile and the bands for the evening, but due to a bunch of chores and other things at home I only arrived in time to see Threshold. They were well into their set and mid-way through The Ravages Of Time when I finally got inside the venue. The sound was great and the band sounded fantastic, as they usually do. The setlist was however a slightly odd mix of old and new songs, but there was still plenty to enjoy. …
