2 jan 2012, 16:45 av BahkasikaBest albums of 2011:
Originally this section was titled Best album, but I ran into troubles. How can I pick between a band that has influenced my musical taste more than any other, my all-time favourite female vocalists, and a new rising star with three kick-ass albums to her name? And of course, I'm talking about Eppu Normaali's acoustic, two-disc Mutala, Kate Bush's 50 Words for Snow, and Chisu's excellent Kun valaistun. I really can't, so the best album this year is a shared prize. Sorry for being boring...
50 Words for Snow:
One of the albums I bought in physical form in this year. After the first time I listened through this, I was regretting the decision to buy it. Luckily, it took just a few more times and the album started opening up to me. It really is a wonderful journey through snow. The only problem is the length: at one hour and five minutes, it requires some time to listen through. Call me old school, but in the past few years, I've really learned to appreciate shorter albums. …

The 83rd Academy Awards honored the best films of 2010.
Oh well, I think something quite quintessential went wrong this year AGAIN, considering that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (respectively the "representative" judges) nominated - AND AWARDED - one of the most boring filmscores I ever listened to, written for one of the most boring movies I ever watched. And considering that one of the most gorgeous filmscores was nominated as well but has been ignored…
The "winners" this year are Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross with their music for "The Social Network", the semi-biographical movie about the founding of the social networking website Facebook…
This is such a shame it's even disgusting! I wonder what could possibly be wrong with those judges (Who are they anyway?), that they award such a… thing… in the same year that John Powell's…
28 dec 2010, 16:28 av StoatBoxI've decided I want to start writing journals on Last.FM again. IT was a few years ago when I deleted my old ones because they were rubbish, but now I'm all grown up it's time! Here we go! My top albums of 2010 are;
10th Place: Anathema - We're Here Because We're Here
progressive rock, progressive metal
We've been waiting for the follow up to 2003's amazing A Natural Disaster for 7 years now. What we got wasn't really that similar - instead of another progressive metal masterpiece we got a more relaxed progressive rock album with tinges of indie and even some ambient sounds. But change is good, and so is this album.
Best Track: Everything
9th Place: Solution .45 - For Aeons Past
melodic death metal, progressive metal, progressive death metal
I'm not really into death metal as much as I was when I was 18, but this album is great. The majority of the focus is on clever guitar work and clean vocals, with the harsh vocals taking more of a back seat.
16 dec 2010, 19:09 av coiled122Well, after hours upon hours of listening to what came out this year (and I still haven't fully caught up), here's the 25 best albums of 2010. Note: this is the list that looks at releases outside of metal. Some may say "Then why are Alcest and Les Discrests on this list?" Answer: I dunno, I'm lazy I guess.

Alcest-Écailles de Lune
Les Discrets-Septembre Et Ses Dernières Pensées
Big Boi-Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty
High on Fire-Snakes for the Divine
Four Tet-There is Love in You
Deftones-Diamond Eyes Some will probably get on my back for this and say "A Nu Metal band? Really?" Well personally, I never thought that Deftones fit that description-they are too melodic for that label, as well as the fact that they have a great frontman and aren't afraid to experiment. In short, they don't suck. Anyways, this is a great album, with "Sextape", "Beauty School" and "976-EVIL" being highlights.
Mike Patton-Mondo Cane
The National-High Violet. Not quite the AOTY some have made it out to be, but on of the AOTY thus far to be sure.
Barren Earth-Curse of the Red River
Nachtmystium-Addicts: Black Meddle Pt. 2
