Janelle Monáe –
The ArchAndroid I first encountered
Janelle Monáe when I was looking at who was up for awards in the 2009 GRAMMYs ceremony. Hearing that
Chrisette Michele was up for an award, I checked to see in which field and there up against her was
Janelle Monáe – so I researched her music and came across ‘Many Moons’. I fell in love with her in the first listen, and kept falling further in love with her with every single repeated listen. After years of waiting I finally obtained her first studio album, ‘
The ArchAndroid’; after being teased by snippets and singles (‘Come Alive (The War Of The Roses)’, ‘Tightrope’ and ‘Cold War’). Usually, when albums contain as many songs as ‘The ArchAndroid’ does it’s usually a sign of quantity over quality; thankfully not in
Janelle Monáe’s case.
So, the first song on the album is ‘
Dance or Die’ (leaving the Overtures until later), in which
Janelle Monáe shows us her vocal versatility and dexterity…
