John Paul White and Joy Williams have an other worldly chemistry on stage. Their name comes from the notion that they are complete opposite personalities, yet together, they intersect at such a lovely musical place. Congratulations on winning 2 Grammys guys, how fitting! I also think Joy has one of the prettiest mouths I've ever seen, and well the sound that comes out of it is alright too. Favorites of mine: I've Got This Friend,
Poison & Wine, My Father's Father, 20 Years, and Falling.

My favourite albums of 2010
31 dec 2010, 00:22 av Babs_05
I imagine my friends have fallen off their chairs in shock. I promise to do one of these every year then wimp out at the enormity of the task. How on earth do you choose?!
I listened to about 500 new releases this year, not counting the ones I didn't like, so the actual figure is higher. 500 down to 10?
I saw a little sentence the other day - good music will always surface. If this is so, then all I have to do is look at what drifted to the top.
This journal is in three parts: albums I am not counting in my top 10 but deserve mention, albums that turned my head, and my top 10.

You don't mess with the masters
What's interesting about seeing your stats and charts in Last.fm is they are not always what you expect. I am maintaining a few collections, Massive Attack and Gorillaz for instance. I have both their new releases, but I didn't make the time to listen that often. … -

Broken Bells @ The Fox Theater 10/05/10
7 okt 2010, 04:40 av mikasaur
mercurystatic and I saw the Broken Bells concert last night at the Fox Theater in Oakland.
I've written about the Fox Theater before so I won't go into too much detail. The theater itself is very beautiful and great for watching concerts. The general admission section is huge and divided up into at least three different tiers, each one about 3 feet higher than the one below it. It makes for a great way to get a good view of the band, and unless you're at the very back of one of the tiers and behind a lot of tall people, you can't really find a bad spot. The venue has a very deep red color scheme like many venues in the area. There are fake Arabian-esque windows carved out of the walls and large 12-pointed starburst patterns are carved into the ceiling.
I said that the venue is good for watching concerts. But it's not so much for listening. More on that later.
There is a huge stage at the front about as wide as the entire theater, which is good because Broken Bells was made up of a 7-piece band that night. … -
Broken Bells - Broken Bells

Broken Bells is a collaboration between Danger Mouse & former The Shins frontman James Mercer. It’s an interesting collaborations of two artists that I’ve always admired. So my expectations for this album were very, very high. I’m curious if these excellent musicians can meet those expectations.
The album features 10 alternative indie songs with a very interesting signature sound that really features the best of both artists backgrounds. The songs may be quite alternative, but they absolutely have commercial potential and carry a lot of intensity and even energy with them. Good beats and interesting rhythms and arrangements are the basis of a very solid album by this, well, new band.
The album starts off with The High Road, which is an interesting way to get things started. … -

Insert Eye-Catching Title Here: Watch the Tapes' Top 100 Albums of 2009
15 jan 2010, 23:11 av FinalPizzaHut
Find all these albums, along with to 25 EPs/Demos of 2009 and hundreds more artists and albums on Watch the Tapes! Comments are appreciated!
2009 was quite a year. A lot happened in the world, in my life, and in music. In theory, those all seem like distinct things - but retrospectively, they can be hard to differentiate from one another. Events blur together, timelines become jumbled, memories get obscured by the haze of passing time; memories of how I felt, memories of people I know (or knew), and memories of the music that soundtracked it all. Most people seem content to simply let these things slip into the past, marching merrily into the future, but I'm never able to fully let go, it seems, and this process of archiving my favorite albums of the year reflects that in a big way.
When I look back at this list in the year(s) to come, I'm not going to see an objective list of the best albums of 2009; I'm not even going to see a list I agree with anymore. …
