    This was the first Iron & Wine album I ever heard and got immersed in... and I truly love it. But I don't quite understand why so many people only love this album. I know it has that fantastically raw, 4-track quality to it... but Our Endless Numbered Days is still a little raw and the songwriting is on par, if not better. (And I think the same can be said for the EPs The Sea & The Rhythm and Woman King). I guess I can see why The Shepherd's Dog may have turned a lot of fans off... since it is much more of a radical progression from the previous albums, but it is still quite splendid (as is Kiss Each Other Clean).

    This is the only record of his that I own, and it's one of my favourite albums. Now I'm more curious to check out his later works, see how they measure up...

    mundane?! are you kidding me? every song on this album has a beautiful, majestic melody. the lyrics are direct and powerful, and the sound is incredibly organic. one of my favorite albums.

    i personally think that this album couldn't have sounded better. i would hate ány difference. i'm so attached to it.. the whispery thought of him recording these songs on his 8-track, in the attic, while his children are sleeping.. it's one of the most magical albums in the world.

    I was pretty surprised by the lo-fi style in the beginning and disliked it, but after a while it’s quite ok. There’s some humming sometimes which is annyoing, anyway, the album seems to be great so far. Got it in mail today. :-)
