www.cocacolla.it ci ha chiesto di compilare un mix per la loro già mitologica serie Vinilica! Così, data l'amicizia con Luca, redattore che seguiva la cosa, gli abbiamo detto "perché non fare un mix live, ma proprio live, con te che vieni in studio con noi, un bel mucchio di dischi, qualche birra e un microfono aperto?". L'idea è piaciuta, così eccoci sul balcone di Albi a chiacchierare in una a fresca sera di luglio, mentre dentro la musica suona potente nell'impianto.

Помнится когда то раньше я тут писал о том, что нужно взять шелковый тифтонский диско лэйбл Permanent Vacation на вооружение. Взял и вот рапортую о новой долгоиграющей пластинке австрийского продюсера и jetset Dj'я - Wolfram Eckert, на конвертах отмечающего себя просто Wolfram. Десять замечательных диско-сказок. Bосемь интересных коллабраторов и все грани italiano под стройный эврохаус последней декады прошлого века. Первыми в гости к Вольфраму заглядывают Holy Ghost! и нежно отправляют нас прямо в руки Андре Батлеру и его Нью-Йоркскому набору пластинок рубежа середины девяностых. Эпическая тройка от триумфатора Club Play chart 82-го Пола Паркера. Roshi - возвращает в каллейдоскоп образов эпохи VHS и безформенной одежды. А потом просто классический эвроденс вместе с Haddaway под который так и хочется снова откопать компакт-кассету с What Is Love. Шестым номером идет Вайпаут в набитый битком ангар сканируемый зелеными лазерами…

The Cure - Just Like Heaven
I had a really hard time choosing between this and Sister Golden Hair by America, as they constantly rotate as my "favorite songs," but I really think this one has the edge right now. It's beautiful. The song has some kind of intense flow that I'm not sure has an equal. The way the music swirls around and the lyrics just flow right along with it. And from the very first few notes, you're hooked. You can't help it, but you are. And you just close your eyes and can perfectly picture everything happening in the song and it's just SO. DAMN. BEAUTIFUL. Plus the lyrics themselves are just so gorgeous, I can't stand it. I guess it would be considered the second verse that has always been a favorite, and the line that's always stood out the most to me is "Why are you so far away, she said…

Swedish boy band trio EMD has just released an acoustic version of Haddaway's massive eurodance classic What Is Love from 1992. It has stuck as the quintessential eurodance formula hit which only has its likes in Corona's Rhythm Of The Night, SNAP!'s Rhythm Is A Dancer and Culture Beat's Mr. Vain. There it somehow ends, but what are the musical roots behind it all?

Behind Haddaway we find a musical trio of songwriters and producers with a long and successfull history in German popular music, going back to the days of 1970-ies euro and schlager disco. With the real names of Karin Hartmann and Dieter Lünstedt (a married couple), they work mostly under artist pseudonyms like Karin van Haaren and Tony Hendrik; for Haddaway and 90ies eurodance they were known as Junior Torello and Dee Dee Halligan. As a third leg they were joined by Alex Trime (very successful as part of the producer duo Trime'n Delgado).
