    Perusing the width of my archives, you've doubtlessly come across me using the word "cull", immediately followed by a list of songs and some choice words. Since your perusing was limited to merely the width, not the length of my archives, it's probable that you might be a bit confused as to what this cull business is all about. Fret no more, imaginary reader, as I set you right.

    The Cull
    I don't listen to complete records on my computer, nor do I play single tracks over and over again. Why? Well, if you're a last.fm user, you probably have quirky music-related habits of your very own. If not...? I listen to albums in my room, in the living room, in the bathroom. On the computer/internet, I like to discover new music. So, I peruse my favourite music blogs, Pitchfork, the Hype Machine and various print magazines to find exciting new music, procure single track samples (legally and illegally), whereupon I proceed to feed said tracks into an ever-changing playlist exactly 40 tracks strong. …
