Let's do this again, just like last year's list. This is not really a list of the best music of 2006, but the music that defined 2006 for me.

Album That's Pretty Good That I Actually Thought Would Suck
Dreams
This band is a project of Kings of Convenience's Erlend Øye. I heard a little Kings of Convenience about a year ago and didn't care for it much. Dreams sounds like a better version of New Order between Movement and Power, Corruption And Lies. It's thinly textured, only leaving the essential bits of good tracks. Admittedly the first few tracks are the best, but they're good enough for me to consider giving Kings of Convenience another shot.

The year is almost over so here is my obligatory top list of 2006. Mind you, these albums are my personal favourites of 2006, not neccessarily albums that were released this year. It's always hard to remember what you listened to in the beginning of the year, so I'm afraid that the list is a bit skewed towards my more recent listening habits.

Last year I had - amongst others - The Arcade Fire, Röyksopp, Soulwax and Ludivico Einaudi on my top list for 2005. I think that from this it's clear that my taste has shifted and evolved in 2006 too, and that it is still evolving all the time.

1 Dagen Van Gras, Dagen Van Stro

The first and only Dutch music that I tolerate and love so far. I was lured into trying Spinvis - against my principles - by enthusiastic friends at college. It's probably the best rule I broke. This album blew me away and I kept listening to it over and over again. I simply love the album as a whole, with a few highlights such as Bijt Mijn Tong Af and Ik Wil Alleen Maar Zwemmen.
