well..'Just saw a french tv serie on legendary beaches around the world..yeah, i know, weird serie idea (nevermind, just typical us frenchies weirdos always curious on big wild world different people outside i guess.. :/ )..among them was the mythical 50s-60s Malibu (in its infancy years, the incredible true beginnings from nothing) and its fab legendary first surfers pioneers..was fascinating..but more importantly i noticed immediately among them one that was seemingly an excellent guitarist too, and damn pretty good at it too apparently: Dick Dale (never heard of him before..yeah, shame, i know); gave me wish to find an album..so far only best hits found, but first impression confirmed; great musician indeed!! damn, cool first americans in those years, true real pionneers before the big shamy general circus later (at every levels it seems), sigh..total respect (and great discovery for me), nice)!

without Dick Dale the world of music as it is today would probably not exist. this guy pretty much opened the door between rock 'n' roll and psychedelic rock, which of course evolved into heavy metal and basically shaped modern rock music.

I would rather say that Tarantino upgraded Dick Dale's status from obscure to one-hit-wonder. probably 99% of people who know Misirlou don't know who recorded it and probably don't give a fuck either. so I'm not really sure could it be considered helping. in some sense, perhaps, still it's not really that obvious.

Screw Tarantino? What's wrong with "misilrou" being used in the opening credits? That's how I was first introduced to Dick Dale and the Del-Tones. If anything, being used in Pulp fiction helped Dick Dale gain a younger fan-base in the 90's. So, honestly I don't know how you can piss all over Tarantino's name.
