The Crows' best effort, no doubt about it. And probably the best album by any artist during the 90s. Sheer perfection!

Around 2001 I listened to Angels of the Silences until my CD wore out. Then I bought another. This also happened with August and Everything After. The whole album is great, but that one in particular made me feel like at least one person out there in the world got how I felt at that exact moment in my life. I would listen to that song on repeat and drive faster, and faster, and at point where I felt like absolute shit 95% of the time, I would smile. I just listened to it again 8 years later...still smiling. :)

This album helped me during one of the hardest times of my life - in fact, I couldn't listen to Catapult without crying for about one or two years. A true classic and one of the most beautiful, wistful, intimate and sorrowful albums I've ever listened to.

this album came out at a rough time in my life and Catapult kind put my feelings on paper..... also made me realize I was being a little crazy:)

(continued from below) Gil Norton does a marvelous job reading Adam Duritz as the producer of this album, and from the desperate, edgy opener Catapult to the gritty, atmospheric Children In Bloom, from the imagery-laden Another Horsedreamer's Blues to the straight-to-the-point Have You Seen Me Lately?, the band is at their peak on this effort. Goodnight Elisabeth is my personal favorite.

Rarely does a band which offers a stunning classic debut follow-up with an even stronger sophomore offering, but the Counting Crows accomplish exactly that with this. Much louder and more visceral than August And Everything After, but at the same time not sacrificing the general style and Duritz's narrative songwriting approach, which are both at full strength here.............
