Okay, tentative list starts now. 2012 was/is an awesome year for music IMHO. While a few years it's been even hard to cobble together 10 releases I really enjoyed, this time it's about cutting it down to 20. In no particular order at the moment:
1. Grimes - Visions : An awesome video for "Oblivion" and the perfect blend of quirky retro-electro and playful ethereal vocals. The Queen of Hipsterdom at the moment.
2. Twin Shadow - Confess : Absolutely immaculate retro-pop.
3. Chemical Brothers - Don't Think : Amazing set. Amazing video.
4. Covox - Strike EP : Chiptune meets Justice. Amazingly underrated.
5. Ice Choir - Afar - Wait, this isn't actually from the 80's?!?!
6. Crystal Castles - III : Not as mind-blowing as the last two, but subtle and catchy. Like the witch-house accents as well.
7. Orbital - Wonky : Best Orbital in years.
9. Squarepusher - Ufabulum : More electro, and even a few dubstep flavors make this one amazing. And his live tour for this was AMAZING by all accounts.

Late as hell, I know. However, no one reads this crap any more and I just do it for myself so here we ago! Another year, another list! Less than last year, but still too many.

Some surprises for me this year were Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Mary J. Blige and Rihanna. YU-A also blew me away with a fabulous album kicking her weak debut's ass. OMG, May J.'s album too!! After two really really really crappy ones, she finally put out great album!! Here's to hoping we get another from her in 2012.

the best rekkids of 2011
2001 fucking blew ass. While many mellowed out, I felt more and more like DESTROYING EVERYTHING. . .and my choices this year reflect that. It was a disappointing year in many many many ways. . . .but musically, we made out okay I think (even with the sheer amount of disappointing music there was from unexpected sources).

This took really fucking long, because my computer kept taking a shit. . . .so. . . . I'm just posting it now so I can get to the new years releases. .. not that I've heard any of them yet.

40. Ringo Deathstarr - Colour Trip
bloody valentines, mary chains and 80s Al B Sure break beats (no, seriously, listen to the last track). . .it's all here.


39. Ulcerate - Destroyers of All
the "i see what you did there" album of the year. It's not the kind of thing I ever thought I'd hear, and it's kind of still sinking in even now.
