Picking the right music for the right moment can be the difference between the satisfied contentment of solitude and the sout-destroying sadness of being alone.

I don't know how music can be so powerful. But it is. So many times it has saved me. And tonight, sitting by myself in an empty apartment, Bonobo is my little companion, filling my heart and saving me from my darkness.

2013: First Quarterly Report

It's been a pretty wicked year for music so far and we're only three months in. I'm still chasing my tail trying to find time to listen to all these gems. Here are a few that stand out so far, plus a few random thoughts below.

* Unknown Mortal Orchestra - II
I just couldn't duck the buzz of this release as it received generally positive acclaim from the various parties I tend to trust when it comes to music. "So Good At Being In Trouble" has been on constant rotation at my place since the day I first heard it on JJJ. It's psychedelic, it's funky and damn tasty!

* Emancipator - Dusk to dawn
I found myself completely enthralled with the first 6 tracks here, just in a trance of total goodness. A fine example of the downtempo/trip-hop sounds I so desperately crave. I do think he needs to change it up a little though…
