First sentence notwithstanding, I'm pretty sure he's arguing for atmospheric music as opposed to technical. I do have a couple of issues with your argument, however: free jazz does not in any way compare to tech death. One genre is based in free improvisation, one is based on rigid, overwritten structures (and despite my description, I do enjoy quite a bit of tech death). Then again, I think all genres have their place. I do agree, though, trying to compare a band like Agrypnie to death metal in general is like comparing apples to oranges.
Whuuut? You're talking out of your ass Snob. Take a class in music theory before you embarrass yourself with misguided statements like "If it isn't technical, it's one-dimensional." and equating Tech Death with Free Jazz. It would be difficult to be more wrong. In those immortal words: If you do not think too good / do not think too much.
If it isn't technical, it's one-dimensional. People who like really wanky music, should usually stay away from atmospheric music. Tech Death and other styles like it (Free Jazz) are the music styles for people who love to show off their "speed and skills." Atmospheric bands like to create music that envelops you like a warm coat. Two completely different styles!
