i don't want another "whatever-blur-album", i want a complete new one!!!! It just doesn't make sense when people start moaning "fuck, i want another think tank or the great escape or modern life or whatever". these albums already do exist!!!!! now go and listen to them. they're unique and a new one shouldn't be like any other blur album.

i dont wanna be a mindless arguer either, but IMAO a new record should be made. it makes no difference starting this group, i know. JUST our one desire, man!

-- and a Blur album derived from them would sound and feel like a betrayal of the band those artists came from. So either way they're screwed. But also consider the pressure on the group to create something great. My first point of it truly having to be the best thing of their career wasn't just trying to stir the pot: just imagine if Blur went on hiatus for almost a decade, went their separate ways, and then gloriously came back, had a brilliant tour and-- released an album that was pretty good but there've been better. The main problem is that it would never be able to stand up on its own. I mean hell, look at the sheer vitriol and fury Music Is My Radar rose up amongst Blur fans when it was thrown on their first best of. Anyway, I don't wanna be a mindless arguer, but I thought I should probably just respond to those last comments. In short: Blur aren't resting on their laurels, they're just releasing albums apart, and I don't think a comeback album could withstand its expectations.

Of course you're not wrong :) But I still disagree, I think. The big difference between a Blur album now and rock's other "post-peak" albums is that of the wait. There was only 3 years between OK Computer and (the better, imo) Kid A, and there was practically no wait between Sgt Peppers and its many sequels. But for Blur, the wait has been too long, which means just any old album isn't enough- it has to be a big COMEBACK album, and history has definitely not been as kind on them. The problem is, there's two options Blur could go down: make it sound like Blur at their peak or make it sound like how Blur would've sounded if they'd kept going. The first option will obviously be terrible: the old britpop tracks on Modern Life, Parklife and Great Escape are brilliant, to be sure, but they're also very dated. Songs like that would never survive in the 2010s. The second option is even more perilous: like you said, a lot of people don't LIKE Damon and Graham's solo works --

btw, im not keen on Damon’s side project efforts nor appreciate Graham’s solo work much. though under the circumstances of unconfirmed statements from the band about the new record and the long wait we have to tolerate, i still extremely fancy hearing their new material. whether or not it would be great or anticlimactic is another story. i dare say i dont care much, honestly. who wouldnt ever wanna hear them again? It will def. be worthy of attention. -- if recent shows are really their last attempt, I’ll be disappointed for they dont value Graham’s comeback by working together again with new music.

  • ImNotLSD

@ Appers thanks for your opinions. here are mine... im not wrong, am i? – to think about the possibility of a new record after seeing their amazing comeback movements. since they never broke up, six years without any new (studio) album is too long to wait. my hopes and expectations have been ignited by their reunion, and perhaps theyre just raised too high in my mind. when Damon and Graham reconciled late last year to play gigs together again, i even thought that a new record would be just around the corner. the excitement of blur’s comeback has never grown on me rapidly like this before. in the past, there were several rumours, u know, but nothing’s ever done practically after Think Tank. the point is, why do u think they should stop releasing new stuff just because they've already done many great records? no one exactly knows what the new album would be like (if they eventually decide to do one), they could be either even better or have gone down hill..

The thing is, a new Blur album would *always* be an anticlimax. There's been too much buildup, and you know Blur's LP8 would HAVE to be the best album of their entire career. The second-best would just be a disappointment to fans, the press and anyone who has it. And just think of what they'd have to top: 13. Blur. Parklife. Modern Life Is Rubbish. Even Think Tank. It'd be putting too much pressure on a single album! Guys- Blur's discography is awesome as it is. Think Tank was the perfect end to a career. They couldn't top a closer like Battery In Your Leg again. Think about what they've been playing live- lots of very dated early britpop tracks. You don't want another album of that! It would NOT stand up well, 20 years later. All in all, a new Blur album would be a really bad idea, guys. Be thankful that the members are still releasing great albums, but they've moved on and coming together for one last attempt would never live up to everything it would be expected to be.
