Do you think your profile is misrepresented because Last.fm only pays attention to the number of tracks, rather than the length thereof? If so, join this group and commiserate.

Aware of the difficulties the Last.fm server team would have, we propose that Last.fm and our profiles would be more accurate if our profiles reflected the time spent listening to artists, not the number of tracks.

If you'd like to link an article to the group (legitimately), please contact Andrewski. In fact, since Last.fm doesn't make keeping up with group activity easy, please contact Andrewski for anything you want him to see. :)

@pewp — actually by the songs you've listened to (it says on the website)

MrSki92, very nice idea and works great for me. Is it calculated by the average song length of the artist or actually by the songs you listenened too?

I see everything works fine, there shouldn't be any errors.

sounds like a diminishing return of how long it would take to make the change as to how much purpose it has. a lot of us listen to artists with many long tracks but so be it. the point is to listen to music not have the biggest e-dick of music listening.

Hello MrSki92, it doesn't work yet for me (Mozilla 29.0.1 version), but I'll try again, it's a nice idea!

My friend and I just created a new website which will let you generate a chart with your favourite artists sorted by time rather than playcount as in the case of regular last.fm charts. Thanks and welcome to www.lastimer.com !

you can even use that figure to guess how much music you listen to a day based on when your first scrobble on this site was (5:19:48 for me)

also, what you can do is take the average length of each song in your library (i use the average length of each played song with a smart playlist in iTunes), and multiply it by how many scrobbles you have to get a pretty rough estimate on how much time you've spent listening to music (which leaves me at 207d 5:03:23)

last.fm is already pretty terrible with track lengths as it is, and doing a complete rehaul of the entire database on here would end up taking years at best. the best solution you're ever going to get to this problem right now would be a complete guestimate

I actually don't understand why it's impossible to implement, since length is just a number, and adding 32,550 or even 3,123,012 numbers is pretty straightforward and simple thing. Moreover, they have many ways to minimize required capacity (e.g. only updating numbers when a page is loaded, or when scrobble numbers change, which actually happens only once in a few minutes maximum, or only once a day, or only once a week, etc.), while it would certainly be more complicated than the present scrobbler, it would nevertheless be possible. On the other hand, it really isn't that important.

I understand that it is weird for a 30 minute song to count for the same as a 30 second one, but does it really matter? Just listen to music.

Really, not even 2k members? i know this is probably never going to get implemented, but still, how come only so few people would want this?

Great idea, and i think it is easy to embed in, because messrs. with a lot of scrobbled long tracks are just incomparable with short-timed canaille.
