who do you think is the best BritPop band

For me, blur all the way

  • Ok, I'm going to be a bit controversial here, but I think that from their first ablum through to Great Escape, Blur were nothing but average. Their singles were ok (at best), but I found their albums dull and full of filler. However, after the demise of Britpop Blur, and Coxon's solo stuff, started producing some fine material that is far better than their earlier material. Obviously this is my opinion, which I doubt will garner much support.

My favorite Britpop band, at the time were Supergrass, but if I take into account whole careers, then it has to be the Super Furry Animals.

  • have we decided on a list of who is actually brit-pop - or that still up for arguement?

Stone Roses and Ocean Colour Scene are both equally valued to me. Would Stereophonics be considered Britpop?

Kula Shaker, Shed Seven, Echo Belly, Mansun, Sleeper,

    all lost.
    all forgotten!

OCS were possibly the best of the last that BP churned out. In it's day you couldnt touch Pulp with their His n Hers LP

But my loyalties were, and will always be with the Kulas - I know crispin went off and did the Jeevas, and the beard was with Oasis for a few years - any other news on em would be ace - anyone?

  • Echobelly are still around. They've got a free new song on their myspace page to download.

    Suede would top it I guess. But I can't really place them any order. Maybe something like this would do the trick;

    hi:

stone roses, suede, pulp, manics, blur

    med:

oasis, shed 7, belle & sebastian, verve, james

    low:

gene, mansun, ash, jack, divine comedy, saint etienne

  • Oasis

  • Stone Roses/The Seahorses top my list.

Honourable mentions to: Pulp, Suede, Blur, Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene, Cast, Gene.

Has to be Pulp, closely followed by Blur. Of the others mentioned, weren't Travis a bit too late to be britpop?

We won't use guns, we won't use bombs, we'll use the one thing we've got more of- that's our minds.
