I'm going to a Primal Scream concert in 5 weeks, and am unacquainted with their most music, i have Riot City Blues, Screamadelica and XTRMNTR, what else do i need so that I will know the vast majority of the music they have played.

    Oh me, oh my,
    Love that Country Pie

The chances are they'll play most of Riot City Blues, the anthems from Screamadelica (Moving On Up, Loaded), probably 2 tracks from Evil Heat (Miss Lucifer, Some Velvet Morning), the obligatory "Rocks" and "Jailbird" from Give Out But Don't Give Up and most definitely "Swastika Eyes" (their best live track).

I can't see that they'll play anything from Vanishing Point, Primal Scream or Sonic Flower Groove.

Speaking of which, get yourself this:

Primal Scream - Sonic Flower Groove (1987)

    Picks
    Treasure Trip
    Imperial
May The Sun Shine Bright For You

You won't recognise it as Primal Scream, but it'll lay their roots out bare and give you a sense of their beginnings. Not only that, it's absolutely awesome.

Reckon they may play Kowalski from Vanishing point which has been on the set list still in recent months after the release of Riot City Blues...

Pot-plant waterer at Artist Expert - Neil Young, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci

I have Primal Scream and Screamadelica, but I need to get a lot more of their stuff.

And what's everyone's opinion about Happy Mondays? I like them a lot.

  • i love the happy mondays...but i still prefer the stone roses to them

It's a shame they were such smack-heads, perhaps 'baggy' could've lived on until the mid 90's.

It was all over too soon.

... thanks in part to the Roses's lack of productivity (court battles are no excuse).

Secret Snacker & Accomplished Pen Thief At:
  • oh definately drugs ruined them
but also ...in a way..helped to make them what they were for that short period.
it's unfortunate the state some of them are in now
    i.e. Ryder

and by the way..good mix for madchester Cylob
feel free to make more like that...i really enjoyed it

Yeah, I definitely prefer The Stone Roses as well. Their self-titled record is an all-time favorite of mine.

Electronic = best New Order spin-off by far

(I like Monaco, but their lead singer is such a Bernard Sumner rip)

    Can't agree more. :)

In the scheme of things, I'd say Electronic's debut is actually on a par with New Order's best material (it's just consistently high-quality). That's if you take the album as a whole.

Monaco's debut was excellent (I'd put it on a par with "Republic"), it's a shame they couldn't keep it up though.

I'll say exactly the same for The Other Two. Excellent first album, and then......

    Plop!

Electronic's debut is so good. I really like Twisted Tenderness as well. I've never been able to get into Raise the Pressure for some reason, though.

And I should get ahold of The Other Two's first album sometime.. I've never actually heard it.

Speaking of Electronic, I didn't realize that they just released a "best of" compilation:

The Other Two are more neworderish than Electronic are.

So when listening to them, you have an insight as to who wears the electronic trousers.

    And it's not Bernard!

Which is why, when Gill left the band, New Order's sound degenerated into easy listening.

I must check out that greatest hits. :)

  • I actually really like Raise the Pressure. I guess I'm a sucker for those big flashy anthems.

On the other hand, I never really got on with Twisted Tenderness...It had the same effect on me as Get Ready....nothing.....

    Ahhh....Manchester..So much to answer for....

I'm with you on Twisted Tenderness/Get Ready.

They're okay, sure, but nothing like what people are accustomed to.

  • So Cylob...EMF go under Madchester?

    What about Candy Flip?

I need to go stick Screamedelica on later....

    Yep and yep!

I saw EMF when they were still small (Exeter University). I heard the lead singer (forget his name now, James or something) remark to the guitarist "this is our best fucking gig ever"!!

A few weeks later they were driving expensive cars into lakes.
