In a blossoming hip-hop hotbed of talent, Malcolm “Mac Miller” McCormick has arrived as the latest superstar out of Pittsburgh, PA. A graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School, Mac caught the eyes and ears of Rostrum Records, inking a deal in July 2010. A multitalented musician who can play numerous instruments and a young novice of the freestyle/cipher/battle circuit of his hometown, Mac paved his way to superstardom in his blue-collar hometown for years.

Born in 1992, Mac taught himself to play piano, drums, guitar, and bass by the age of 6. Then, after learning to compose songs in a variety of musical genres, he began studying the art of rhyme. Influenced by the styles of artists such as Big L, Lauryn Hill, Outkast, and A Tribe Called Quest, Mac soon developed a reputation for delivering jaw-dropping freestyles in Pittsburgh.

Recording his first songs in the Fall of 2007, Mac went on to form a duo called The Ill Spoken. By 2009, Mac began recording solo records. During this time he released “The Jukebox” and “The High Life” and began to generate a legitimate buzz in the streets and online.

By of July 2010, Mac’s buzz became undeniable. With a handful of offers on the table, the young phenom decided to sign with independent powerhouse Rostrum Records. In August 2010, Mac released his Rostrum Records debut “K.I.D.S.” and took the internet and music industry by storm.

Billboard called Mac “The new blueprint of success in the music industry,” while CNN labeled Mac having “a buzz comparable to The Beatles.” Mac was also featured on the cover of XXL Magazine’s coveted Top Freshman list. The Washington Post said “Miller’s skillful rhymes, humorous themes and upbeat demeanor are catching the nation by storm.” Complex Magazine called Miller “The Steel City’s newest rap poster boy.” while the Source Magazine placed him on their cover hailing Miller as “a dominant independent force who is here to stay.” The New York Times praised Mac’s attention to his fans by claiming “Miller’s early plan to give away free music has paid off in big ways.” Rolling Stone praised his progress saying “Mac’s new music is another positive step in his long stylistic evolution.”

Mac’s greatest strength though could be his ability to shine in front of the camera. Soon after signing to Rostrum, Miller was thrust onto several national radio shows for interviews and impromptu freestyles, which have now become Youtube viral video classics. Mac’s videos have now surpassed 500 million hits on www.youtube.com/treejtv, including 6 with 25 million plus views a piece. Mac’s music videos are a mainstay on popular video channels such as MTV, MTV2, BET, and FUSE.

The success of his early street buzz and social media dominance also led to Mac to selling out shows across the world with The Incredibly Dope Tour quickly transitioning into the internationally sold out Blue Slide Park Tour with almost 200,000 tickets sold in 2011. Mac followed those tours in 2012 with his “Macadelic Tour” and co-headlining the Summer of 2012′s hottest tour “Under The Influence Of Music” with fellow Rostrum Records labelmate Wiz Khalifa.

Mac’s selling potential was also immediately apparent as his debut Rostrum EP, “On and On and Beyond,” sold over 125,000 copies digitally alone. Mac has now sold over 4.5 million singles total with little to no radio airplay. In November of 2011, Mac continued his surge of success by becoming the first independent artist since 1995 to debut atop the Billboard Charts with “Blue Slide Park.” As of January 2013, “Blue Slide Park” had sold almost 400,000 copies.

He was also named BMI’s “Social Star of the Year” at the 2012 BMI Urban Awards and was a guest presenter alongside Miley Cyrus at the 2012 MTV VMA Awards. Mac’s stock continues to rise as he started off 2013 with a bang being named Complex Magazine’s “Man Of Next Year.” Mac’s MTV2 reality show “Mac Miller and The Most Dope Family” became the highest rated debut in the history of the channel. His social media presence has also continued to grow with Mac having almost 4 million Twitter followers, 3.6 million fans on Facebook, and 500 million views on his personal Youtube channel. Mac has also continued to evolve as a producer under the alias Larry Fisherman along with making some Jazz tunes under his alter ego Larry Lovestein. Now with a hot single produced by Flying Lotus entitled “S.D.S.” Mac is ready to top the charts again with his forthcoming sophomore album “Watching Movies with the Sound Off” set to be released June 18th. Look for Mac Miller to continue his rise to dominance in the international music world in 2013 and beyond.

"Gotta make you proud of Pittsburgh hip hop. BAM!"-- Mikey from "The Freak Show" the 1 Show on 96.1 KISS FM, Pittsburgh's 1 Radio Station.

"So why did I pick the Mac Miller video? We had over 100 people submit music videos. The competition was tough! You could tell that the video director is an artist. The video had a 70's feel to it. From the shots, to the logos, to the transitions. The whole girl with the umbrella theme that kept replaying throughout the video was dope. It wasn't high budget, but it looked like it. Also, the song had an authentic feel to it. There was no frontin, nothing extra, just a guy trying to holla at a girl." - DJ Vlad on Mac's "Got a CLue" Video

"Mac Miller is the future of music."- Darrelle Revis Pro-Bowl footbal star from the New York Jets

“Now comes the 17-year-old Mac Miller who‟s been spending the last hot minute
carving out his own niche and establishing himself as one of PA‟s premier prospects on the
mic.” – XXL Magazine
