last fm BASICS - COST - Verizon MOBILE and IPAD

  • last fm BASICS - COST - Verizon MOBILE and IPAD

Hey, Last.fm, redesign your website, answer the most important question how much does this cost for mobile and ipad. And use human understandable terms, not kbs or stuff like that - here's an example answer:

Last.fm uses all of the bandwidth available on a verizon unilimited plan after 1 day of use....

There is no way to prevent last.fm from using up all your data plan, you cannot force it to use wifi only... etc.

    HERE'S the questions

How much does it cost to run last.fm on an iphone on verizon. Does it use dataplan or does it use wifi if available. How much data is used to listen to the radio all day for a full day, how much does that use of the unimited verizon data plan

Is there a way to MAKE SURE your data plan is not being used when using last.fm on your iphone without having to turn your cellular network off

Is last.fm only available as a paid app for the ipad, no free option?

How you're billed for what you stream is down to your ISP provider. Last.fm stream at 128kbps, which is the same as digital internet radio and is industry standard. What this means is it uses the least amount of bandwidth without compromising on audio quality and also means most people around the world can enjoy the radios.

Contact your ISP provider to work out your daily cost.

  • How much of a 4gb data plan does last.fm use per hour?

thanks for the reply, but still uncertain of the answer, here's the question rephrased:

Does the last.fm app for iphone:

try to use wireless instead of data connection so as to not use up data plan for cellular provider? How can you tell?

how long do you have to play last.fm to use up 1gb of a data plan?

here's some calculations that could be totally wrong. If someone actually knows the answer, please post:

    verizon wireless 4gb data plan

there are 1 billion bits in a gigabyte

    so:
128,000 bits every second used by last.fm ?
    6800000 bits per minute
    460800000 bits per hour

there are 1 billion bits in a gigabyte
    so:
    1000000000 /460800000 = 2.17 hours play to use up a gb

4000000000 / 460800000 = 8.688.68 hours uses up your entire verizon wireless data plan - that doesn't seem right

  • Normally, if your phone is connected to wi-fi, that's where you'll be streaming from. However you might want to check with your provider that they aren't deducting wi-fi data from your allowance (i've heard of several providers doing that). If that's the case give them a call and see what they can do.

There is an option to run the streams from lower quality (64kbps) in the Last.fm app settings.

    That's not quite correct...

    8 bit = 1 Byte, so
    128 kBit / s
    = 16 kByte / s
    = 0.016 MB / s
    = 57.6 MB / h
    1000 MB ( = 1 GB) / 57.6 MB / h = 17.4 hours

if you want to argue that 1 GB is actually 1024 MB then this differs a bit, but not too much, so generally to get to 1 GB you can listen to the 128 kbps stream nonstop (without any other traffic) for 17-18 hours (double that if you use the 64 kbps stream)
