    The voice of King Crimson

I just wanted to know who is your favourite vocalist who has played with King Crimson (or is still playing with)?

Mine is Adrian Belew, excellent voice, followed by Greg Lake...

And Belew is an excellent guitarist too.

You may know what I don't know
But not that I don't know it
So you will have to tell me all

    Gentle Giant - Knots
  • John Wetton probably.

  • I got addicted to KC music when listening to the early albums, so Lake's voice remains number one KC voice. Love it. Then comes Belew, with his wonderful musical era (for as far as i know he wrote most of my beloved tracks on latest KC albums).

I'd love to change the world but I don't know what to do...
So I'll leave it up to you.
  • I think that John Wetton and Greg Lake were the best vocalists. They've got wonderful voices.

And no one called us to the land
And no one crosses there alive.
No one speaks and no one tries
No one flies around the sun....

  • Yeah, Greg Lake. But Adrian is very good too.

  • Yeah, Greg Lake. But Adrian is very good too.

  • Wetton - but then he was there during my fave KC period.

Love peace and truth incorporated for all who seek

I think there's no answer to that question, Even if the voices differ a lot with each other, I think every singer fit with the music of the period they played in KC.

Don't ask Belew to sing One More Red Nightmare : It would sound a bit weird.

Don't even ask Wetton nor Lake to sing Elephant Talk...

When you listen to any 73-74 concert with Wetton singin stuff from before 72, this is not as good as the original.

I think that's one of the reasons why Fripp and KC does not play older songs by now. (one other reason being not to be too past-oriented)

    vocalists

i completly agree with ayahgagohn. i personally very like the voices of boz burrell and john wetton but every vocalist in kc has very nice voice.

In the beginning Man created God; and in the image of Man created he him.
  • I prefer Lake's voice, but there is just something about Adrian Belew's personality and energy...

That's an excellent point. I also feel that Belew just fits the King Crimson style (whatever that is) better. He seems like a perfect match with Fripp, in particular.

I think you're absolutely right. Especially with Fripp being off to the side playing, and Adrian Belew being the front man.

Now that you mention it, I recall that being mentioned in from Crimson King to Crafty Master...

Not to mention both are outstanding guitarists, with complimentary styles.

  • You're absolutely right. :)

  • Edit:
lol, I meant John Wetton. XD
