New Republican poetry/songs

  • New Republican poetry/songs

I think that many of you will like this. I have put a bunch of "poetry" on my blog. Almost all of it is republican and many of those poems are very good. What I do is take the lyrics of songs I listen to and alter them in different ways. Some I simply change the subject matter from N. Ireland to general liberal-left or vice-versa; and most I twist into the exact opposite of what it originally meant; and many are both.

For the most part I offer this as poetry, although you could find the original music on youtube and sing my version while listening to the original. I’m also hoping that some band with the right politics will want to use them.

There are currently four pages of posts with the “lyrics” theme. The first one, which explains the “twisting” of most of the lyrics, is at http://devlin-mcaliskey.blogspot.com/2009/01/just-call-me-billy-bragg.html .

  • Some More Really Good Republican Poems

Since I posted the message above, I have written a lot more poems, AND many of them are close to 100% mine (and only slightly the originals) and many are really good, and some are both. You should read the following ones:

"Eyes On The Prize" the third poem at- http://devlin-mcaliskey.blogspot.com/2012/02/eyes-on-prize-three-more-poems.html

"Withdrawal" the fourth post at- http://devlin-mcaliskey.blogspot.com/2011/06/irish-republican-army-now-in-poem-form.html

"Catholic, Protestant, and Dissenter" the only poem at- http://devlin-mcaliskey.blogspot.com/2011/04/anti-sectarian.html
