Where do you buy your vinyl records?

So, where do you buy your records? Is there any stores or on the net?

Me, I'm usually bying my records in a store in Linköping, Sweden. They have pretty many records by Alice Cooper that I'm collecting. And I sometimes go to gatherings for vinyls and buy records. I'm not usually buying online, because I wanna see what I am paying for.

I either buy at shows or local stores. Usually Encore Records or the Beat Goes On.
I don't like buying over the net because of high shipping costs and I don't want to risk the record being damaged,

  • at festivals, on internet or local stores

  • paris is great for searching around...
personally, Betinos was a lil' gold mine, although id almost run out of money having just been to a tech/electronic specialising place...

Ignorance IS bliss, but it takes knowledge to appreciate it....

Vertigo Records a few blocks away, Record Connection about 20 minutes outside the city, occassional trips to Philly. And the guy that sells records when the craft shows come to the mall. I've gotten some amazing records by way of his crates.

  • Usually In Distortion (amsterdam) www.distortion.nl
i can get lost there for hours or even a whole day.
besides that there's tons of good independent record stores in amsterdam
otherwise i go to rotterdam, plaatboef they got a lot of good new vinyls.
and there's some other good record stores suchas demonfuzz and triple vision there as well.

besides that i get vinyls on ebay if they are out of press

Listen Records and Sound Connection in Edmonton

  • Local stores. Leuven and Antwerp have a few good places to buy records.

Discogs, or from Underground Solu'shn in Edinburg when I'm there (which isn't very often). Looking forward to them setting up an online store. AFAIK, there aren't many (if any) near Belfast, Northern Ireland.

  • It's impossible to find good vinyls in my city - they're horribly bad Spanish "artists" from the 70s or they are new albums that also come out on vinyl. So everytime I go to London I buy some... There's two great places in Camden Town (All Ages Records and Out on the Floor, the first one specially for punk/hardcore/Oi!). There's also a good shop in Brighton with very reasonable prices and historic records (that's where I got "Never mind the Bollocks by Sex Pistols in its original edition f. e. )

Thanks for the tip. Looks like a city trip to Amsterdam is in order. :-)

Mostly at shows or from Celebrated Summer Records in Baltimore, MD. They've got a great selection of punk, indie, hardcore, thrash, and everything good. Plus the guy who runs the place always makes good conversation and recommendations.

  • second-hand and charity type shops in whatever European city I happen to visit

  • Oxfam, or local record shops or the internet

  • Flea markets, internet stores or local shops, but mostly in shops around.

When it comes to buying records, I envy you guys so much for living in Europe and in the U.S... It's kinda hard to find places selling vinyl records in Brazil, and when we found it is often too expensive. And the shipping for overseas purchases is also high, besides our coins is kinda low right now... Well, there is a lot of obstacles if you want to collect vinyl records around hehe. But at least we have some used records stores with cheap prices - not the greatest records in the world, but it does help.

  • I've purchased records from:

    -A gaggle of thrift stores
-Record stores (both mom & pop and chain[i.e. Newbury Comics])
    -Ebay
-Various other websites (i.e. Dusty Groove, 420 Records, Discogs, Turntable Lab)
    -Craigslist
    -(Free) Hand-me-downs

Overall, I have acquired thousands of really good records without spending top dime. An accomplishment in my eyes! LOL.

There's unfortunately only one good record store in my city (although not a small one) which I frequent regularly. But fortunately there are 2 (music-only, mostly vinyl, some cd/dvd) flea markets here which I almost always go to; they're a few times a year.
I don't buy on ebay anymore, seldomly I buy repressings though at an online shop, they ship free every once in a while.

I bought most of my vinyls in London, here in Italy you can't find nothing at the record stores, if you're lucky there's something at the markets...

  • Amoeba - hollywood (best store ever!), Rhino - claremont, CA, ebay and distro or label sites.
