Why doesn't my profile show up when searching through genre?

  • Why doesn't my profile show up when searching through genre?

I just added my artist profile a short time ago. When I saw that the music wasn't getting played, I wanted to see if you could find me by searching by genre, but it only shows commercial artists why is that? It only shows specific ones. So if you are new to the scene or less popular, no one will ever see your site unless you tell your fans specifically how to find you. If you are new to the scene...you will have better luck elsewhere...any advice for me?

  • Hi,

The reason you're not showing up in the search box is because you need a minimum of 5 listeners first. This is to filter out the tens of thousands of mis/alternate spellings of popular artists.

This is also why your music is currently not appearing on the radio, and there aren't any similar artists appearing on your page. All of this information is worked out through your listeners, and the more listeners you have, the more accurate it becomes. With no listeners (or under 5), we do not have enough data to connect your artist page to others.

For more information on how similar artists are worked out, please read the following:

To get started, there are several things you can do:

The most important is to get more Last.fm listeners, and you should start by inviting your friends, family, and existing fan base, to join Last.fm. Once registered, encourage them to download the scrobbler, and scrobble your music to their profiles and tag it as well.

It's also a good idea to do all of this stuff yourself -- the most successful indie artists on Last.fm make use of both their artist page and their user profile page. The reason for this is because people who have a similar taste in music to you (your neighbours) are quite likely to be interested in the music you make as well. So be sure you put a link to your band page on your About Me section!

In fact, the more you interact with the Last.fm community, the more likely you are to get the most out of it. For example, there are a number of groups and services dedicated to helping you promote your artist on Last.fm, and raising awareness of new, unknown bands. For instance:

    http://www.last.fm/group/under+2000+listeners

    Hope this helps!

  • Thanks.

Thanks, I''ll have to try that then.
