Good mix indeed, aye. Cover mixes are always attractive but tricky. I once tried to make a three-part one, with "Ben Gibbard covers other people", "other people cover Ben Gibbard" and "Ben Gibbard covers himself", but failed miserably. I dream of making the perfect cover mix though, which would include "Your cover's blown" by Belle and Sebastian as the exception to the rule, and to justify for the title.

For the record, I love the Proclaimers.

I'm so adjective, I verb nouns.
What demon possessed me that I behaved so well? - H.D. Thoreau, Walden
  • Currently it exists only in my mind, although I could burn it to a CD very easily. If you send me your physical address, I'll ship it to you. Of course it won't be duel-sided the way a mix tape should be, but that's the price you pay for going digital, I guess.

"I am firstly a great charlatan, though con brio; secondly, a great charmeur; thirdly, I have any amount of cheek; fourthly, I am a man with a great quantity of logic, but with very few principles; fifthly, I think I have no real gifts." Serge Diaghilev
  • this one is a couple years old, but it's still my very favorite.

    "story of my life"
    blondie - sunday girl
    patti rothberg - inside
    veruca salt - volcano girls
pretty girls make graves - modern day emma goldman
bikini kill - for tammy rae
the used - buried myself alive
the smiths - pretty girls make graves
    portishead - sour times
the donnas - who invited you?
    sleater-kinney - good things
the faint - take me to the hospital
the ramones - judy is a punk
the gossip - on the prowl
    cat power - i found a reason
    cursive - the radiator hums
    cat power - metal heart
    hole - gutless
the cure - boys don't cry
    no doubt - spiderwebs
    the breeders - cannonball

  • I got one

    ok, here goes.

    Side 1: Come Back, Baby
The Magnetic Fields - I Don't Believe In The Sun
    Magic Sam - That's Why I'm Crying
Songs: Ohia - Come Back To Your Man
Ray Charles - Drown In My Own Tears (Live)
Sam Cooke - Bring It On Home To Me
Okkervil River - Listening to Otis Redding at Home During Christmas
Mirah - You've Gone Away Enough
    M. Ward - Sad, Sad Song
The One AM Radio - Lonesome Moon
John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman - Lush Life

Side 2: Depression and Moving On
Leonard Cohen - One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong
    Nick Drake - Which Will
Neil Young - Out On The Weekend
Lewis & Clarke - Bloody Coat
    Rickie Lee Jones - Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo
    Emitt Rhodes - Lullabye
    The Shins - Pink Bullets
Elliott Smith - Oh Well, Okay

When the opener's "I don't believe in the sun", you know you're up for some quirky moping :)

I'm so adjective, I verb nouns.
What demon possessed me that I behaved so well? - H.D. Thoreau, Walden
  • it's true.

hmm, maybe I should change the name of the tape to 'quirky moping'
it sort of comes out of it at the end, though. I can't listen to 90 minutes of moping without getting a little numb to it.

I like it that "your ex-lover is dead" is there, too. it's a great song, means a lot to me.

I'm so adjective, I verb nouns.

  • yeah, I really love that song. It's actually the only one I have of theirs. A friend of mine from montreal sent it to me a long time ago, and I've been meaning to buy the album ever since, but I just never got around to it.

  • The Undeniably Similar Tape

...as suggested by Niquaidus in my most recent journal entry, i'll attempt a mixtape. i can probably only fill one of those cheap 60 minute numbers, but still...

NOTE: it would be very easy indeed to make this a tape of songs with the exact same title. the challenge is making them merely similar.
NOTE II: this is only what i have on my ipod here at work - a lil 4gb thing, so i'm severely limited in selection, alas.

    side 1
    1.Mellow Yellow

Well, in this other forum we had the idea for an action, where everyone participating would have to make a mixtape/-cd for another participant (drawn by lots) and send it to him, etc.
I received a cool mix-CD (where there was a very beautiful "Death Cab for Cutie" song, which will probably get me into the band, I guess) and I'm going to send mine probably tomorrow or the day after.
The CD's called "anemos" (greek for: wind) and the tracklist is:

    01. Wintersleep - Wind
    02. René Aubry - Sirtaki à Helsinki
    03. Fabrizio De André - Via della croce
    04. Malicorne - Bourrée
    05. Andrew Bird - Skin Is, My
    06. Helium Vola - Ondas Do Mar
    07. Jan Garbarek - One Goes There Alone
    08. Litfiba - Istambul
    09. Soli I Sombra - Armadillo
    10. The Black Heart Procession - Tropics Of Love
    11. Jethro Tull - Black Mamba
    12. Clann Zú - Absence Makes The Heart Die
    13. Tool - Reflection
    14. Arthur Honegger - Danse des morts
    15. dredg - Bruststroke: An Elephant in the Delta Waves
    16. Supergrass - Electric Cowboy
    17. Pattern is movement - postlude

Of course I selected mostly unknown artists, because I didn't know well what the other exactly listens to, and because it would be stupid if he already knew most of the tracks~
