    Suggestion: release "hidden" features

It's probably soon summer time at Last.fm, so a little something to make us site update-lovers happy could be releasing some of your hidden pages?

And by "releasing" I mean actually putting up links to these pages. It would even help the few of us who knows about these pages, because I always forget about them..

I don't remember them all, but here are some of them: (if some of them are already linked, forgive me)
    http://www.last.fm/user/Tecfan/library/moderatedtracks (auto-corrected tracks)
    http://www.last.fm/user/Tecfan/library/moderatedartists (auto-corrected artists)
http://www.last.fm/user/Tecfan/library/reminder (artists you haven't listened to recently)
http://www.last.fm/user/Tecfan/context (how well do we compare?)
http://www.last.fm/user/Tecfan/replytracker (track your forum posts, link very hidden)
    http://www.last.fm/home/reading (recommended journals and news)
http://www.last.fm/home/friendsdiscovery (what your friends has discovered recently)
http://www.last.fm/place/norway (place pages, also kinda hidden)

We're on the case, trust me :)

In the majority of cases, the challenge is finding a useful way to include these in the UI, rather than any desire to keep these "hidden". I can't give promises or specifics obviously, but we're working on ways to integrate these on the site.

You might want to add: http://www.last.fm/home/friendsdiscovery (because it's awesome)

Nice, I didn't know about the "friend discovery" or the "context" pages.

There are also the country pages: http://www.last.fm/place/united+states

Although I can see why those are still hidden, as they need a little work (some of the features of those pages are broken).

As an aside, I think it would also be cool to have a page for [no country] as well. I imagine it could be the largest "country" of all.

    +1 also

replytracker is public already (link in grapevine)

I link to the others from my about me, apart from context, which should be served by links from the recent visitors to your page, but isn't (perhaps somebody will write a greasemonkey?).

  • Why can't I see the friends discovery page? Is it 'cause I'm not a subscriber? The context one doesn't work either but it explicitly says I can't see it because I'm not a subscriber; the friends discovery page just gives me a

Agreed. I hadn't stumbled on this page before. For now, I have simply bookmarked the hidden pages as I find them in my browser.

    Music, like language, is universal.
  • And what does it actually do?
But I didn't even now that the "reading" tab somehow still exists.

Moderated tracks and artists are all those that get auto-corrected, right?

not so much a hidden feature but rather forgotten is that playlists can still be played with the lastfm client, or the default playlist at least:

    lastfm://user/username/playlist

although i can understand why it isn't fully implemented in the site, but why not link to those on the subscription page? surely more ways to attract subscribers is a good thing.

Do you really think that you can stop this downside trend, which started with non-free radios for non-US/UK/Germany users in April 2009, with a few new (beta) stats pages?

If people aren't interested in Last.fm anymore because of the loss of free music, they surely would never pay for any stats, wouldn't they? ;)

so, instead of making minor changes and adding few links in order to attract a customer or two, we should simply abandon it because, alas, it won't give us bazillion of dollars and a huge google search volume?

i'm really sorry to inform you, but that logic is NOT flawless :D

True. also, search volume index tells us very little about actual usage of the site.. now site usage.. that would go up by having a friend finder ^^

Last.fm isn't in need to attract "a customer or two", they are in need to attract several 10,000 new users to make profit finally. It's all about money for CBS and it's all about music (not stats) for the paying users, the google trend speaks for itself....

again, what's the reasoning behind not implementing it? if i can't attract 10000 users at once, i shouldn't even bother to get 100 of them? after that, it's surely easier to have 9900 of them left, instead of the starting 10000. it's your own example :D

    Bad cost-benefit ratio.... ;)
