  • Feedback for Charts update (12/12/01)

I used to browse the charts but now it seems the design is changed and this change seems to doesn't allow you to take a look over the 150th position (note that before you could see over the 400th indeed) is there a way to see like the previous chart was?

    Thanks in advance,

    Leo.

  • This was reduced to 150 as sometimes the query timed out with such a large request. Thanks for your feedback though. If enough people miss this feature we may look at raising this limit.

  • Right! I see but IMO I see that you can choose for the amount of artist, songs and so on...so as you have the 50th, 100th, 150th I beg for an option than can be entitled "full chart"with over the 400th. It happens that the so called "forgotten bands" that you can't see on different charts you saw it right here and it was a proud feeling.

    Thanks for your feedback!

I second the request to be able to view charts to (at least) the 420th position as we were able to until the most recent change.

There are indications that last.fm has been generating the chart data all the way up to the 1000th position (e.g. http://www.last.fm/music appears to be based on the top artists chart, displaying them 10 at a time in 100 pages) but the top artists chart only displayed the first 420. I don't know of any way (not even using the API) of displaying historical charts beyond what may be viewed on the top artists page. While I wouldn't expect last.fm to show me all 1000 artists by default it would be nice if there were a way to access this data, both for the current week and historically.

Just one thing. Why all the white-space on the right of the white-block? The ad pushes it out. http://imgur.com/YknxQ , http://imgur.com/MtRcI. It kinda looks 'incomplete' if there is so much white space.

  • We have plans to add content to the right hand column early in the new year.

    Cool! Looking forward to it!

  • Why can't we have charts related to tags or categories? For example as a metal fan I'm interested in the metal charts, not in Rihanna or Amy Winehouse.

Have you seen these yet? :)

  • Yep I've seen that before but it doesn't have a chart appearance (I'm talking about the tag thing). I'd like to see some kind of order probably it would affect aesthetically the view but most of the last.fm users love the stats and would like to appreciate some order for the bands that don't appear on the charts as of now.

  • You can find a list of the top 1,000 artists by playcount as at 6 January here. If you go to here (an external site), there's a link to an Excel spreadsheet of all 7,500+ artists with over a million plays, which can then be filtered to show only metal artists by amending the filter on the "Description" column to include only descriptions that include the word "metal".
