Problem with the "/" character in tags

I have the following list of tags that I want to add to a track:

    Alternative Pop/Rock,
    Alternative/Indie Rock,
    College Rock,
    Contemporary Pop/Rock,
    Dance-Rock,
    Post-Punk,

Whilst 'Alternative Pop/Rock' is accepted, 'Contemporary Pop/Rock' and 'Alternative/Indie Rock' are not.

To get e.g. 'Contemporary Pop/Rock' accepted I have to change it to 'Contemporary Pop Rock', that is I have to replace the "/" with a space.

Can somebody explain the logic here?
Is there a way to have the "/" character accepted?

  • I think the issue here is that some of these tags should be split up e.g. , , , . I'm not quite sure why Alternative Pop/Rock is allowed, but it's likely this tag has existed since an earlier iteration of Last.fm which allowed the "/" character.

Strange though that 'Alternative Pop/Rock' is accepted?
