Concert Review: Rock The Bells 2007 feat Rage Against The Machine
    What: Rock the Bells 2007
    When: 07/28/2007
    Where: Randall’s Island
Who: Rage Against the Machine, Wu-Tang Clan, Cypress Hill, The Roots, Public Enemy, EPMD, Mos Def, Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks

As far as musical second chances go for fans, a Rage concert disguised as an all-day hip-hop festival in 2007 is right up there with the best of them.

Organization proved to be Rock The Bells’ weak point—from changing the order of the performances on the fly, to a shoestring staff trying their damnedest to appease the 30,000+ crowd, to running out of water and beer (plenty of kids were fainting), to getting off the island in which your choices were a $21 ferry or a piling on three free buses back to Harlem in the middle of the night. About 10,000 picked the buses—resulting in me getting home six hours after the show had ended.

It was fun! I concur with most of everyone on the concert's shoutbox. Rage Against the Machine was amazing, and so were... The Roots! I now have a new band I'm into. I need to get my hands on one of their CDs.

This has a lot to do with my specific music tastes, and I'm pretty sure Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, Wu Tang and everyone else did phenomenally but I'm not the biggest fan of that variety of rap, I guess. Next time I should make sure to not be there the whole day :-P

I got a pretty bad sunburn, mostly due to poorly planned concert logistics. They don't let you bring in food, and there was only one food stand in the main stage area! We ended up standing around, waiting for food in the hot sun for like an hour and a half.

Already mentioned that Rage was amazing. It was really awesome to hear them play so soon after they got back together. I didnt participate, but there was a lot of hardcore moshing going on, everywhere and all at once. A few people around me passed out.

As this monumental day draws ever closer, my excitement and anticipation grow to new levels :) This is it, this is for real, no fucking around. And I know I'm not alone; RATM is probably one of the most beloved bands of "our" generation and will be one of the artists considered to be the 'classic rock' of it, if you will. So, if you are attending Coachella, how are you feeling right about now? What song you think they will open with? Is it going to be another Woodstock 99 or can we all keep our composure? For those who can't make the trip, are you counting the days till Rock the Bells? Will this spark some sort of change politically? Vent on me! We've been waiting for this day.....

    **update**
