Jeudi 12 - Rufus Waiwright

Because Rufus Wainwright is gifted, beautiful, and yet so innocent and child-like sometimes, and such a diva. There are so many adjectives I could use to describe him, because he's so complicated and witty, and naive, and to me UTTERLY PERFECT.
He's the only one in the world who can wear a trashy-Tirolese outfit and not look ridiculous, too. In fact, he looked pretty amazing, especially the striped silk shirt was splendid.

Yesterday's concert got me even more into his new album (but not into him literally speaking, unfortunately), this was more or less the lineup:

-Between My Legs
-Tiergarten
-The Art Teacher
-Do I Disappoint You
-Not Ready To Love

And Gay Messiah was the perfect song to end up with.

After a week of rain, Montreux had a nice and sunny Saturday— and to me it was hard to find a better way to end the hot day than inside Montreux Jazz Festival’s cool Miles Davis Hall. I can now say that I prefer the latter to the much bigger Stravinsky auditorium: the acoustics seem better and the ambience is cozier!

The opening act, Herman Düne, was a well oiled touring band that seems to perform concerts as if it was always the first time: the guys look happy and motivated to play and they did have a sense of humor! The band has also a lot of originality in terms of the instruments that they use. From the unconventional drum set arrangement to the wonderful use of the electric yukelele( you’ve got to hear how the guitarist/lead-vocalist uses the bottleneck with it!); they show no complex and assume their individuality.

After an hour of play, came the preparations for the main act: The Good, the Bad and the Queen. I had the chance of being on front row for this concert, and so I stayed there despite the pause. …

Fr., 6. Jul. – Sa., 21. Jul. – Montreux Jazz Festival

Das Montreux Jazz Festival ist von seiner Atmosphäre und von der Qualität sicherlich einzigartig. Zwar sind die Konzertpreise mit ca. 80.- am oberen Limit, aber man hat halt auch die Sicherheit, dass man für dieses Geld ein unvergessliches Konzert geboten bekommt.
So auch vorgestern, als gegen 22.00h die Chemical Brothers die Bühne des Auditorium Stravinskis betraten. Und sie legten gleich mit dem Kracher "Galvanzie" los, welcher das Publikum von Anfang an mitriss. Überhaupt legten sie schon mit den ersten Songs ein unglaubliches Tempo vor. Als dann bei "Hey Boy Hey Girl" zusätzlich zu der eindrücklichen Licht- und Videoshow noch zwei Laser einsetzten, gab es kein Halten mehr. Wie schon erwähnt, ist die Soundqualität in dieser Halle wirklich top, die Beats und Bässe schienen regelrecht durch Leib und Seele zu dringen. Im Mittelteil hatte das Konzert imho ein paar Längen, bis dann mit "Saturate" / "Believe" das Highlight folgte. …

Die Chemical Brothers gehörten mitunter zur Speerspitze des Big Beats. Mittlerweile sind sie weit mehr als das! Die "Gebrüder" Tom Rowlands und Ed Simons dürfen nicht umsonst einen Grammy Award ihr Eigen nennen. Spätestens seit Surrenderkennt man ihre fantastischen Live-Sets weltweit.

Doch genug der schönen Worte, es geht ums Hier und Jetzt! Nach den kommerziell sehr erfolgreichen Alben Come With Us und Push The Button liegt die Messlatte hoch oben. Und was meinen die Erwartungen der Fans? Beglückt uns mit We Are the Night ausnahmsweise mal eine Überraschung? Tatsächlich liefern die Chemischen dieses Jahr ein aussergewöhnlich anderes Album ab. Bis auf Battle Scars dürfte sich unter den zwölf neuen Songs keiner für die regionalen Radiostationen eignen. So what is it all about?

wooow I came back a couple of days ago from the first meeting of the Staff of Montreux Jazz Festival 2007.. man it was great, almost 1000 people there :-D

I will be helping the "security" group, from 6th to 21st of July.

A couple of great guys are coming to Switzerland this year too, like Norah Jones, Pet Shop Boys, Youssou N'Dour, Faithless, Beastie Boys, Placebo, but also Brad Mehldau and Pat Metheny, Al Jarreau with George Benson etc.. as you see the program can be quite interesting :-)
