I love Michael Showalter, and I love that in an interview before he said he knew the crowd wouldn't like it. I wish I was there for him. I hate Modest Mouse but I used to love Broken Social Scene, and even though it would have been cool to see them, I would have chosen the comedy stage over BSS for sure.

I was actually super pissed how they did the comedy. I wanted to see pretty much everyone...but the music line up was fucking killer, and there was no way I could see any of it.

btw, Michael Showalter totally bombed. It was one of the more memorable moments of the fest for me, but I'm guessing most people here missed it because they're not talking about it.

I have a feeling they oversold this years event... I went in 2008 and there was plenty of room to move around and catch multiple consecutive acts on separate stages. Good luck trying to do that last Sunday night. I'd be willing to bet there were more than 2,000 additional people per day compared to 2008.

Well the size difference obviously wasn't the only reason they went with Heineken, but Heineken made them an offer Goose Island just couldn't match. And it's not like Goose Island got screwed out of the deal either, as Pitchfork has a hand in the booking of the New Music Monday series in Millennium Park, and got Goose Island the contract for that. As for attendance; 2007 topped off with 48,000. As far as I can remember, they issued 2000 more tickets each day this year than the past and all days sold out.

All I remember from Big Boi is that little child talking but then ending it with "WHO WANTS THIS SHIRT!?!?!" I LOLed.

I want to clarify my statement below. In no way do I think that that the folks who put on P4K are commercial money grubbers. To the contrary, I think they put on the best music fest in the USA. Every year I go home thinking that something like this can't survive in a world so ruthless and profit centric. Another great festival indeed.

amp is green. heineken is green. green label sound supports chillwave artists. p4k likes chillwave artists. shouldn't be hard to put 2 & 2 together bros.

Pitchfork supports Heineken and is becoming slightly commercial. Must be "Losing it's Edge"

The reason they went with Heineken was money. In other circumstances, I would be happy for the festival organizers for finding a new income source without raising prices. I just worry about Pitchfork turning into a smaller version of that other Chicago festival. Right now it is such a great event, and I'm a bit concerned that this will be the going commerical/jump the shark moment that I fear has to happen some day. Such a friendly, well run event can't last forever. Someone will make it their cash cow and the good times will end. I hope Heineken isn't the beginning of that process.

Really? How different could it be? I know they moved the b stage and I was told that was to increase capacity somehow, and it definitely felt super crowded on Sunday, but considering it's at the same venue and (I think) both years sold out, I'd be really surprised if the size difference is the reason they went with Heineken.

2007 was also a lot smaller.

in response to MixMastaFace, the only other year I've gone was 2007, so I can't speak for more recent years, but at least that year you could get a huge bottle of smart water for a $1 (and they didn't waste your time with tickets), and they still gave away free water to the front row AND they had goose island beer. I mean, if Pitchfork wants to become a Chicago institution, they're not going to do it by selling us Dutch piss water.

I think I have to give Big Boi my vote for best set of the fest. Outkast must be the best singles band of the last 20 years, and he played every hit and then his new shit was at least as good. Totes Redonk. Lightning Bolt deserve a mention for playing the best set I've see of them (and I've seen them 5 times over the course of at least as many years; I've also see Black Pus once). Dam-Funk was also quite mind-blowing, as was Delorean at the empty bottle on Friday, but I didn't actually see them at P4K.
