Giant Claw is the solo project of Keith Rankin whose dense and extreme eclecticism samples from and alludes to classical music, pop and R&B, footwork, vaporwave, and 8-bit video games. Rankin also in the duo Cream Juice with Seth Graham, with whom he founded Orange Milk Records. Rankin’s artwork for Orange Milk accurately depicts the surrealist pop art of electronics found on each release.
Baby Birds Don’t Drink Milk is a newly reformed project originally from Lawrence, KS. There the band was heavily involved with the CHOMP WOMP collective / tape label, whose cult status can largely be attributed to BBDDM’s evocative avant-Animal Collective leanings. Now based in NYC, songwriter Drew Gibson also runs the label SOLID MELTS and records as Katrina Stonehart.
Brooklyn’s Mezzanine Swimmers is the psychedelic industrial noise project of Mike Green, who is also a founding member of Video Daughters. Their 2013 tape Cougar Opaque is filled with grainy textures, distorted guitar ambience, tripped up techno beats, and surrealist pop structures.
Trabajo is the NYC-based duo of TJ Richards and Yuchen Lin, who make extensive use of Indonesian gamelan samples culled from Nonesuch albums, Indonesian tape blogs, and live performances from YouTube.
Macula Dog is a weirdo noise pop duo based in Queens.
