A bill focused on the poetry and musicality of three influential proponents of the off-kilter, New York pop song. It's the critically admired poet and musician Franklin Bruno and his Human Hearts, the still vital and flourishing 1980's stalwarts The Scene is Now and Heroes of Toolik, noted avant garde and proto-punk players (members of Branca, Television, Modern Lovers, Lounge Lizards) distilling their experience in pop song format. It's been called 'Swerve Music' -- pop, but too off-center to conform to any a narrow definition. Elvis Costello, Beefheart, Nick Lowe peek out from under this rug. These musicians bring to the stage a literate and uniquely New York synthesis of rock and art.
