As the front man of band Pavement, Stephen Malkmus is the nineties indie rock god who loved mocking his generation. He has shown persistence, independence and has stayed true to his muse. Since Pavement ended in 2000, he has made six albums, solo or with his band the Jicks, including the excellent new Wig Out at Jagbags, a collection of his now signature elegantly formed pop songs. Yet at the heart of his music, there is still a unique bitter sweetness—the light shrug that follows the realisation that in time all things come and go.
Cheeky, charming and touchingly direct, Melbourne foursome Twerps are international lo-fi pop champions. Formed in late 2008, the band were already supporting the likes of Deerhunter, the Bats and the Black Lips within a few months of their first gig. Their first EP – a collection of sweet, melancholic, romanticised indie-rock – contained nine short, simple but incredibly infectious tracks that captured the world’s attention and was hailed by iconic music magazines, Twerps will be performing at Zoo Twilights this summer with Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks.
Both Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks and Twerps are proud to support Zoos Victoria in their fight to save the Eastern Barred Bandicoot from extinction.
